Now, Use Free Wifi at these Metro Stations in Delhi!

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has finally approved of providing free WiFi services at Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate metro stations in Delhi, starting January 1, 2016.

Named Metro-Fi, the new service lets passengers access internet services free of cost for a total duration of 30 minutes in a day. “Further browsing beyond 30 minutes through WiFi will be as per applicable charges by the service provider,” DMRC disclosed this in a press note.

The wi-fi services at these two stations are being provided as part of an MoU signed by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation with the Rail Tel Corporation of India in May 2015.

Initially, five stations were identified for the setting up of these services. The other three stations where WiFi facility will be available soon are Vishwavidyalaya, Central Secretariat and Hauz Khas. All of them are on Yellow line metro which runs from Samaypur Badli till Huda City Centre in Gurgaon.

“As soon as a passenger enters the paid area of these stations, she can select available wifi network named ‘Metro-Fi’ and then register herself through her mobile number. Subsequently, one SMS will be sent on that number having the login password,” a metro official said.

Till now only Airport metro line stations and the Rapid Metro Network in Gurgaon which is 5.1 km long were wifi enabled.

  1. Nice move, but the metro trains sould have wifi all through. That would be more beneficial, otherwise people will have to stay at Rajiv chowk or Kashmere Gate for all the time. This will increase congestion.
